The
Public Works Department
is comprised of four divisions (Service, Water, Waste Water, and
Cemetery) which are basically responsible for the administration
and maintenance of roadways, sign installation and repair, snow
and ice control, brush and leaf collection programs, Public Works
buildings and property maintenance, storm and sanitary sewer maintenance
and repair, waste water treatment, cemetery maintenance, water
billing, collections, mains, meters, hydrants, valve maintenance
and repairs, all City vehicle maintenance and repair, and the
monitoring of all services contracted out.
The Service Department begins leaf collection on or about the beginning of October every year and continues unitl all leaves are picked up. the city is divided into four sections with a truck in each section, continuos rounds of each section will be made. The city collects approximately 6000 cubic yards of leaves every year which are taken to our own composting facility. The compost (leaf humas mixed with wood chips) is free to all Bedford residents and is located in the Bedford Cemetery under the Rt. 8 Bridge. This can also be delivered in full truckloads only (on rainy days only).
Brush and Branch Collection
Place branches on treelawn with cut end facing the street. Branches cannot be larger than 8 inches in diameter. You must call the Service Department for collection 440-735-6583. Your address will be placed on a list and collected in that order. Wood chips from the chipper service are available to anyone. The pile is located in the Bedford Cemetary under the Rt. 8 Bridge. Wood chips will be delivered in full truckloads only
UNACCEPTABLE - rose bushes, grape vines, pricker bushes, railroad ties and stumps.
The Service Department will snake out the sanitary sewer from your house to the street providing a cleanout is installed in the house. Call the Service Department between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, for emergency service after normal working hours call the Police Dept. and they will contact a crew.
When the following holidays fall on a Monday or Tuesday, trash and recyclables will be picked up one day late:

STORMWATER MANAGEMENT
The City has painted FISH on our Storm Sewers and Catch Basins. These fish exhibit a reminder that what is dumped in a catch basin or drain has an affect on the quality of water and the livelihood of the natural habitants. Please Be Concise Of What You Put Down The Drain.

Old telephone books can be dropped off at Shawnee Hills Golf Course, 18753 Egbert Road, Walton Hills, in the container provided.
SERVICE DEPT. HOURS
From Memorial Day to Labor Day the Service Department working hours change from 8:00 to 4:00 Monday through Friday to 7:30 to 3:30 Monday through Friday.
GRASS CLIPPINGS
The City of Bedford suggests composting, leaving the clippings on the yard, or a mulching mower. When clippings are bagged and put out for refuse collection, it costs $39.71 per ton for disposal.

The following can be dropped off at the Service Garage, 100 Solon Road, between 8:00 and 3:30 Monday through Friday (NO AFTER HOURS DROP OFF); Oil or solvent based paint, sealers, primers, or coatings - Varnishes, polyurethanes, shellacs - Paint thinner, mineral spirits, turpentine - Pesticides, herbicides, fungicides - Caustic household cleaners - Automotive fluids, motor oil, car batteries - Adhesives, roof tar, driveway sealer - Kerosene, gasoline, lighter fluid - Mercury, flouescent bulbs. NO LATEX PAINT ACCEPTED, BEDFORD RESIDENTS ONLY.
